Online gaming - safety tips for parents and important adults!

Gaming is fun! It can inspire children and adults to be creative and teach us many things in a playful way. At the same time, gaming can also be one of the most challenging things to tackle in parenting, be it in terms of setting rules or making sure that one’s child is safe online. For this reason, we have asked the Swedish Gaming Association, PRIVO, and Surfa Lugnt, an organization for online safety, to provide parents and other important adults with tips on how to stay involved in their children’s online activities.

Welcome to Jorvik!

Star Stable is an exciting online game where friendship, mystery, and adventure are waiting to be explored on the fictional island of Jorvik. Together with their very own horse, players become a part of an epic story as they discover Jorvik’s magical world from horseback.

Give it a go and experience Star Stable together with your child!

How we work with safety in the game

At Star Stable, we work hard every day to provide a safe, secure, and fun environment for all our players. Here are a few examples of the ways we work with security in the game:

  • In our chat, it is not possible to share photos or videos. Nor is it allowed to share any kind of personal information such as usernames, passwords, real names, addresses, phone numbers, email, etc.

  • We are using an advanced AI service for monitoring and moderating our text only chat to keep our users safe. The security system is intended to prevent users from sharing personal information such as name, address, username on other social platforms, telephone number, e-mail address or using certain words. The system is based on machine learning technology, works in real time and understands the semantic meaning of sentences in any language. Any reported content is checked by human moderators. The service provider keeps the AI based moderation system up-to-date by feeding all human moderation decisions in the AI model regularly. The AI system is KidSafe listed.

  • We are working on a report function in the chat that makes it easy to report any inappropriate behavior.

  • Star Stable does not and will never share any information or account details of any kind with third parties, with the exception of any criminal investigations where we cooperate with law enforcement authorities in the countries where we operate.

  • We are talking to our community about some basic rules of how to stay safe online.

  • To get access to the game, all players are required to comply with our Terms and Conditions. If players break those Terms and Conditions, they risk being banned from the game. Have a look at some of our in-game rules here.

  • Star Stable adheres to the strict requirements set forth by PRIVO, an independent, third-party organization committed to safeguarding children's personal information collected online.

  • Star Stable has established Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) compliant privacy practices

Online safety is important to us and we work every day to provide a safe and secure platform for our players.

What you can do as a parent or an important adult

In our chat, our players can write to each other, make new friends, and work together with other players to solve quests.

  • Explain to your child to always be careful when communicating with someone they do not know.

  • Take time to sit down with your child, get familiar with the game, and talk about how to interact with others online.

  • Remind your child to never give out any personal information such as their real name, address, telephone number, or even their usernames and passwords on social media platforms.

  • Make sure your child keeps their Star Stable log-in information private, including their password. Remind your child to not share log-in details and passwords with friends, not even their best friend.

  • Encourage your child to tell you if another player asks for their name, if they are alone, or where they live. There is no reason for anyone in the game to ask these questions.

Star Stable requires that all players treat one another with kindness and respect. If your child has been treated badly by another player, don't hesitate to contact us! Our customer support is always available and continually works to ensure that our players are safe and have fun! Contact our customer support.

Ask

Ask your child about the game, how it works, and what your child thinks about it. Show interest in the games your child likes, and ask if your child plays with others, if the games are fun, or if there is anything your child is uncomfortable with.

Listen

Even in the most fun games things can happen that your child might need to talk about. Remind your child to always meet other players with kindness and respect and explain that what you do or say online is just as meaningful and real as what you do or say at home or at school.

Play

Games should be entertaining, and playing is fun! It's never too late for you as an adult to start playing yourself. It will also give you a deeper understanding of what your child is interested in and what they think is fun.
